Responsibilities
Chair
- With committee, set the Society’s governance, strategy, and long‑term development
- Ensurekey volunteer roles are filled and that members can enjoy a strong programme of activities and services
- Chair Management Committee meetings, Trustee meetings, the AGM, and any EGMs
- Work with the Membership Secretary to ensure full compliance with Charity Commission requirements, including the Annual Report and Accounts
- Act as a spokesperson for the Society when appropriate (shared responsibility)
- Lead liaison with Lambeth Council on matters beyond day‑to‑day Hut operations
- Handle emergencies or unexpected issues, involving others as needed
- Authorised signatory for bank accounts
- First‑line adjudicator for complaints and disputes under the Society’s IDRP
Membership Secretary
- Administrative lead for the Society
- Receive incoming correspondence and delegate, as appropriate
- With Chair, compose agendas and circulate papers for monthly committee meetings.
- Manage new joiners and renewals
- Provide regular updates to the committee
Treasurer
- Ensures LHS is compliant with Charity Commission financial regulations and reporting including CIO Accounts & liaison with Examiner (as required)
- Monitors income and expenditure
- Alerts the committee to any areas of concern
- Cash to the bank
- Authorised signatory for bank accounts
- Manages funds on deposit
- Checks & pays invoices
- Manages rent, rates & insurances
- Controls access to SumUp & provides training
- Reports regularly to the committee
Assistant Treasurer
- Assists the Treasurer in their duties
- Authorised signatory for bank account
- Reviews & reconciles bank statements
Trading Secretary
- Ensures reasonable levels of stock at Hut, as agreed by committee
- Delegated to order stock to pre-agreed levels
- Receives, checks & price-tags deliveries of stock
- Takes the lead in recruiting & training volunteers for the Hut
- Ensures volunteers are available when the Hut is open and when stock is being delivered
- Arranges stock at talks, flower shows and community events
Social Secretary (Talks & Outings)
- Draws up an annual programme of outings
- Handles bookings for outings and liaises with venues
- Holds delegated authority to commit to payments related to outings
- Organises talks & member events other than Shows
- Co-ordinates (but does not necessarily lead) activities
- Identifies & books external speakers book venues, AV etc
Communications
- Manage website
- Monthly email to members and subscribers
- Social media – Instagram & Facebook
- Create digital materials as necessary
Health & Safety Officer
- Ensures that Health & Safety Policy is up to date
- Ensures that required certifications are kept current
- Organises training as appropriate
