Lead the direction of a long‑established, community‑focused horticultural charity and help it thrive for the future.

We’re looking for someone who can think strategically, guide a committed committee, and bring steady, thoughtful leadership — with plenty of support from the team around them.

Chair

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting the Society’s governance, strategy, and long‑term development
  • Ensuring key volunteer roles are filled and that members can enjoy a strong programme of activities and services
  • Chairing Management Committee meetings, Trustee meetings, the AGM, and any EGMs
  • Working with the Secretary to ensure full compliance with Charity Commission requirements, including the Annual Report and Accounts
  • Acting as a spokesperson for the Society when appropriate (shared responsibility)
  • Leading liaison with Lambeth Council on matters beyond day‑to‑day Hut operations
  • Handling emergencies or unexpected issues, involving others as needed
  • Managing and recording key‑holder access to the Hut
  • Approving spending above delegated limits and releasing contingency funds
  • Serving as an authorised signatory for bank accounts
  • Acting as first‑line adjudicator for complaints and disputes under the Society’s IDRP 

The Chair is well supported by an active, experienced committee, making this a rewarding opportunity to lead.

As Membership Secretary, you’ll be at the heart of the Society’s connection with its members.

We’re looking for someone who loves being organised, enjoys keeping things running smoothly, and brings fresh ideas to how we welcome and support our members.

Membership Secretary

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage new joiners and renewals
  • Keep our membership database accurate and up to date
  • Make sure membership cards and forms are always in stock
  • Send renewal notices and friendly reminders
  • Lead our move toward direct debit and online renewals
  • Provide regular updates to the committee
  • Administrative lead for the Society
  • Receives incoming correspondence and deals, as appropriate
  • With Chair, composes agendas and circulates papers for monthly committee meetings.
  • With Chair, ensures LHS is compliant with Charity Commission regulations

Help us to ensure that our activities take place in a safe and healthy environment.

Ensure our Health & Safety Policy is up to date and that required certifications are kept current.

Organise training as appropriate.
