What is the Hut?

Advice: Free advice from local experts. Volunteers are on hand to try to anwer your gardening queries, from houseplants to allotments. From right plant right place to creating a new garden, improving yield and wildlife-friendly horticultural practices.

Shop: Our shop has a huge range of garden and horticultural supplies, bedding plants in the Spring and bulbs in Spring and Autumn plus top quality seeds, tools and equipment, compost, horticultural sand, grit and gravel, and floral art material. You may also find patio plants, vegetables, roses, tender perennials and annuals. There are always plenty of flower and vegetable seeds, hanging basket materials, containers, tools – everything you need to keep up the momentum of the gardening year. Flower arranging materials are also on sale.

Because the Hut is run by volunteers, commercial prices are heavily discounted. All profits are ploughed back into the Society.

You can pay by cash or card.

Learn: The Hut also has a library of gardening books which members can borrow.

Finding the Hut

The Society shop was originally in an actual Hut – which is how it gets the name. Now we lease premises from Lambeth Council. The Hut is just off Knights Hill Road SE27, opposite Tivoli Park. It is at the end of Cedar Tree Grove, off Lakeview Road SE27 0QE – click here for a map. There is parking onsite and the 196 and 468 buses stop two minutes’ walk away (Furneaux Avenue stop going south, Lakeview Road going north.)

Help at the Hut

The Hut is run entirely by volunteers and we always need more to help. We’ve put together a bunch of 30-minute tasks for people who are pushed for time or want to try it out. Just turn up and ask for the co-ordinator for the day.

We also need a team of people on standby for when our regular volunteers are on holiday, or at another event. Get in touch for details of the next training session. They run during the year 12.30 – 1pm on certain Sundays.
