“If you’re keen to get gardening and growing food, we suggest you join one of our parks-based community gardens. These are well-run sites with great community spirit. The ethos is to grow together, and everybody gets more than enough to take home for their own use,” urges Lambeth Parks.
There are a few suggestions on the Lambeth website, covering some of Lambeth’s large parks. There are many more very local groups who are doing great work in small spaces. The best way to make contact is to explore your neighbourhood, and check social media for call outs.
Community gardening is an opportunity to grow fruit, veg and flowers and to learn more about gardening. Whether because you don’t have a space to garden, you want to help improve the environment, you want to meet people or a mix of all three, you should find something to suit.
These groups are almost always run entirely by volunteers so circumstances do change. Be kind and be patient!
