The beautiful Early Grey moth – in a Lambeth garden

.

“I put out the moth trap last night [23 March] and this was the only moth in it this morning. It’s appropriately named the Early Grey, and is on the wing from March to May. It’s another new one for our project list. They’re common in suburban areas and a frequent visitor to garden moth traps.

Their larvae feed on honeysuckle, and there was a honeysuckle just a few feet from the trap. So if I’d been placing a bet on which species was most likely to show up, I might well have put my money on this one!”
